If you’ve ever been to Pier Avenue in Hermosa, you’ve probably seen Gum Tree, a former house turned retail, and now retail & restaurant spot sitting on the hilly road.
The retail side contains many cool trinkets from activewear to baby wear. They were all cute but I wasn’t in need of any of that. Of course, surprise surprise I was there for food.
I hopped over to the restaurant side & was about to order my lunch when I noticed up on the wall was a large map of Australia. The man at the counter? An Aussie too. Then that’s when it made sense as to why it’s called the Gum Tree. Australia was just the furthest thing on my mind when I went to get my lunch.
Yes, the menu had some Aussie specialties like meat pies and even some Aussie desserts but on that particular day, I just went with what I knew.
After being told by the helpful man at the register that the macchiato was “not like Starbucks”, I went ahead & had a cafe latte. Sure I could have tried something new but I just wanted a drink with a little more milk. The coffee was super creamy & delicious. I wish I ordered a larger cup
This beautiful spinach salad was up next. I could tell it wasn’t just hastily thrown together. Some extra care went into it & the presentation shows that. I enjoyed it down to the last bite while taking in the sights of Hermosa.
It took me a while to try this place but I’m glad I finally did. It’s a nice little cafe to check out if you’re ever in the area. Whether you’re alone or with a group of friends, the atmosphere is just very cozy and laid back. Just like what you’d expect from a beach city, and Australia as well!
