This was another one that I’d walk past for years but I finally went! The Eco Cafe is known for its fair trade coffees, vegan & vegetarian dishes, baked goods, and smoothies. To sum it up, if it’s good for you, you’ll find it here.
The vibe in this small store was mellow and laid back. It was nice to find some calm on busy Pier Avenue. They had a small collection of art work for sale along with tea sets. I of course was here for something to drink.
I know they’re famous for their coffees but since it was late in the afternoon, I went for a smoothie.
I sat on the oversized & comfy chair, played on my phone with their free WiFi & sipped my Hermosa Horizon berry smoothie complete with almond milk & hemp protein. It wasn’t the hands down best smoothie I ever had but it was a nice change from corporate stores like Jamba Juice. I was actually able to relax here. No one kicked me out or made me feel like I was unwelcome. The staff was very polite & I look forward to trying their coffee next time I’m in town.
ETA: A few days later I did have one of their coffees. It wasn’t bitter nor burnt. Like I said earlier, it’s a go to place if you want a break from the corporate chains but not the best coffee ever.
