I usually watch my waist but admittedly I crave a burger every now and again. Keeping with my trend of all things local, I always try to find an independent or small chain restaurant for whatever cuisine I’m craving. I decided to try Steve’s after driving by it en route to the gym (yes, go figure). If you’re looking for a trendy burger joint, this is NOT the place for you. In fact, when I walked in, I felt that it was dirty. All the tables were clean and workers were seen sweeping the floors but something just seemed off. For some reason, I decided to try the burger anyway. The menu offers a selection of burgers, sandwiches, and also Mexican fare. It was nice to see such a wide variety of food for sure. The cashier was very friendly and quick. I ordered a simple meal of a cheeseburger, fries, and a coke which was ready within five minutes. I headed back to the booth to consume my lunch. The restaurant was very small with three aisles of booths. An old arcade game and three small booths were located next to the cashier area. Graffiti was etched on some of the windows…nice touch… As I ate, I still felt odd. Again it didn’t feel clean to me at all, and I noticed a lot of patrons had their orders to go. Maybe they were on to something….
The burger was juicy and the fries seemed pretty fresh too. However, nothing stood out in particular. It definitely wasn’t the best burger I’ve had. The size seemed larger than what I’m used to but nothing stood out with the taste, with the seasoning. The plus was that the soda was a pretty generous size to what I’ve been accustomed to with those value meals at most fast food restaurants. I don’t think I’ll be coming back here anytime soon. It definitely was an experience in itself. The quest for the best burger continues.
Steve’s is located on the corner of Crenshaw and Carson and has its own parking lot. If you try this place out, I would recommend getting your order to go. Don’t stay for the atmosphere, because there isn’t any.
